Hello Misfits,
The Misfit Chronicles continue.......
Sunday came in sunny and with warming temperatures, perfect
for our ride! We convened at HESS for the ride north and west @9:00 AM. Well, I
couldn't believe it! I forgot my trusty Misfit camera-you know, the one that
takes the Misfit Classics! Nuts-hopped back on my bike and sped home to get it.
It was okay since it gave Danny a chance to link up with us from Palm Bay. When
he pulled in, it was kickstands up and into the wind! I looked at the sky as we
rode north on U.S. 1 and said, "Thank you Lord for this beautiful day!"
Since we didn't get rolling 'til almost 10:00, we decided
to skip breakfast and eat lunch when we got to the Hideaway on Lake Harris. We
turned west on S.R.46 and bid adieu to David W. and Bob who continued on to
Daytona for the last day of Bike Week. We rode 46 west with the wind in our
faces enjoying the camaraderie that only bikers on the road together can
understand. I took us down the back roads beneath the huge Spanish moss draped
oaks to Lake Monroe. We traveled the perimeter of the beautiful lake 'til we cut
back up the short end of 17-92 where we stopped @ the 7-11 for butt relief, pee
break, and refreshments. Onward and westward we rode towards Mt. Dora. When 46
became a two lane road again, I could see smiles on the faces of the riders
behind me. There was Danny with his arms holding the ape hangers of his Softail
and Betsy smiling astride her Heritage Classic with its distinctive tri-light
front. During the sweeping turns, I could see Ken and Carol on their Valkyrie,
Debbie on her blacked out Sporty, Joey and Annie on their beautiful red Road
King, Larry with his blue lensed sunglasses reflecting the bright sun riding his
Road King Hog, Rob and Cindy on their beautiful blue Heritage Ultra Classic,
Marty on his Road King, Betty tooling along on her purple Sporty, Joe and
Michelle on their big hog with the Voyager Kit, and my beloved Bonnie riding her
trike "Lucy." For me, there is nothing like being in the wind with the Misfits!
We rode through the quaint little town of Mt. Dora before
turning down Lakeshore Drive for the beautiful ride around Lake Dora. We started
out high above the emerald lake with boats carving its waters and then dropped
down to the shore line for the ride into Tavares. Once out to S.R. 19, we cut
north to Woodlea Road and the serpentine trek through open fields filled with
cows and horses and then orange groves to Lake Harris. Then, right in the middle
of nowhere, our destination-the Hideaway right on the shore of Lake Harris.
There we had lunch by the lake. The Hideaway even had a singer who did some good
songs from George Strait, Bob Seeger, and others. Everyone took a leisurely
stroll down the boardwalk to the lake. It was about 75 degrees and
sunny-perfect!
With the time slipping away, we went out front and took our
Misfit pic. Another classic, don't you think? I took us back on a sweeping loop
around the south side of Tavares and Mt. Dora with too many turns to describe
here. It was all in the country with bucolic scenery until we got on 441 and
thence to 46 again. We came back around Lake Monroe by Johnny Rotten's Bar Out
Back before riding through Ft. Christmas via Lake Pickett and Taylor Creek. We
ended at the venerable Lone Cabbage. What a ride!
Hope to see everyone next Sunday.
