Sunday's Ride
The Misfit Chronicles Continue......
Hello Misfits,
Wow, the Melbourne VFW was a fun and happening place on Sunday morning, June 6, 2010. 66 years after the Allied invasion landed on the French Coast on June 6, 1944, the Misfits invaded Melbourne's venerable VFW Post once again! The ride along the beautiful waterways of Central Florida's coast is always a popular one, and today proved to be no exception as 30 Misfit bikes turned out for the trip to Boppy's, Sebastian Beach Inn, and Lou's Blues. There was a trio of relaxing destinations, but the main draw was the ride along the Indian River and the Atlantic Coast. Before I forget, I want to welcome new Misfits Kelly, Tree, Tony, Tina, and Donna! Great to have you all aboard and of course I know the ones who brought you (Herb, Tiffany, Kevin, Denise, and Ronnie) warned you about what you were getting into!! I also want to wish HAPPY BIRTHDAY to three Misfits who had birthdays this week: Patti, John, and Ice Man Bob! Also nuptial congratulations to Lenny & Lynn who were married on Saturday!
We headed south on U.S.1 after gassing up at the Post Road 7-11. It was a good day for another Misfit jaunt into the great wide open, and we did so with the usual high spirits and panache! Our queue was quite impressive and lengthy as you can imagine with 30 bikes rolling down the highway "lookin' for adventure" together. We did pretty well making the lights through Melbourne and only got split once. We had four trikes this week counting Irene, Karen, George (on his new Purple Powered Harley), and Bonnie. There was the usual wide variety of bikes in the Misfit Caravan-everything from Kelly's Honda Rebel to Tony's Victory to Tree's 1984 Shovelhead Harley. Once out of Melbourne, we settled into the ride and enjoying the great bond that being on the road and in the wind together brings. Misfit Photographer Jim Newman was busy snapping in flight ride pics from the back of his Dyna Low Rider, and Jim comes up with some very unique and fun shots that always seem to capture the essence of our ride. Thanks again, Jim, for the GREAT pics! Whenever our caravan stopped at a light, Cindy, who was riding beside me, and I would look back at the lines of Misfits with riders leaning over to talk and smile 'til the light changed. It's all about fun, and we have plenty of it!

In no time we were crossing the bridge over to Wabasso, Orchid Island, and the mainland. What a view! Cruising at less than 30mph over the bridge gave us many chances to take in the sights of the spacious Indian River with its birds, boats, fantastic mansions, and gorgeous waterways stretching to the horizon north and south. 30 of us pulled into Boppy's beachside and gathered under the big shade tree out front. There we cooled down, got some cold drinks, and enjoyed each others company once again. That's where we took this week's Misfit Picture-another Misfit Classic, don't you think?! Then we were off once again, riding north along A1A towards Melbourne Beach and the next stop for the Misfit Train-S.B.I. aka the Sebastian Beach Inn. Bonnie called ahead from Boppy's to let them know (warn them!) that 30 Misfit bikes were coming! Thanks, hon.
We got there early enough that we had the parking lot virtually to ourselves; good thing, too, since 30 bikes just about filled up the lot! Then we spread out to enjoy the ocean front ambience of S.B.I. The deck sits right on the ocean, and the views are excellent. Our group spread out all over the environs of the place with some inside at the bar, at tables, and others outside on the deck. Eddie and Evelyn got a table inside but still had a great view of the Atlantic out the window. Bob and Dot sat with Ronnie, his son Tony and daughter-in-law Tina at one table while Cheryl, Doug, Dave, Mitzi, Kevin, Donna, and Denise got another table near a big window. Kelly, Tree, Tiffany, and Herb were at the bar along with Ted, Grant, Ice Man, and Irene. Rich, Wil, Debbie, Patti, John, Karen, Bonnie Banks, and Danny were outside on the deck enjoying the view. I also found Jim, Duff, George, and Jane (complete with bike matching purple shirt) sitting at the bar. Cindy was cooling down with a cold one inside as well. Hey, we virtually had the whole place to ourselves! Bonnie and I walked around enjoying seeing our buds having a good time.
